Red Turkey

June 5, 2007

Attention: Walt Young, PA Outdoor Times

I thought your readers would be interested in the unusual spring gobbler I took this year. For me, it was a turkey of a lifetime.

While hunting in Pennsylvania State Game Lands 73 on May 5, 2007, I shot an erythritic (red) adult gobbler. As you can see in the photo, the wing and tail feathers were white and the rest of the bird was red. The bird weighed in at 24 pounds and had two beards; a seven inch and a one inch. It only had one spur that was 7/8 inch.
